BUILDING TECHNOLOGIES

Building may still be seen as lagging behind on the technology front. Building a home still requires more labor-intensive work, while other industries have replaced the craftsmen’s touch with computers and machines.

In reality, the building community still embraces new, technology-forward practices from costing to custom designs to enhanced customer engagement throughout the building process.

Denise Dersin, editor-in-chief of Professional Builder® Magazine discusses this in the latest issue, and gives us a glimpse of the future – the possibilities of using 3D printing on-site to “build” a house. Still in its infancy, this idea is being developed at the University of Southern California.
